96-year-old Lou Goodman of San Luis Obispo, CA appears on episode #646 of Hometown Heroes, airing September 19-24, 2020. A native of Los Angeles, Goodman survived 30 missions as a B-17 bombardier with the 91st Bomb Group during World War II.
Goodman’s father died when Lou was just two years old, three weeks before his younger brother was born. You’ll hear some of his childhood memories, growing up “very, very poor,” as his mother cleaned houses and offices to provide for Lou and his three siblings. By the time Lou reached tenth grade, he felt the need to help support the family as well, and he dropped out of school to join the Civilian Conservation Corps.
