On April 18, 2015, the only two surviving Doolittle Raiders marked the 73rd anniversary of their daring mission by presenting their recently commissioned Congressional Gold Medal to the National Museum of the United States Air Force.

The medal was flown from Washington, D.C. to the museum in Dayton, Ohio, aboard a B-25 bomber, similar to the ones Cole and Thatcher flew in from the deck of the U.S.S. Hornet on April 18, 1942. Episode #364 of Hometown Heroes focuses on Thatcher’s memories of the Doolittle Raid, with excerpts of an interview originally recorded in December, 2009.
