Husband and wife veterans Mike and Doris Wanty of Oakdale, CA appear on episode #452 of Hometown Heroes, airing December 30, 2016 – January 1, 2017. Doris, born in Yosemite National Park, went on to become a WASP (Women Air Force Service Pilot) during World War II. Mike, an Oakland native, served in the Navy as on officer on the destroyer USS Lardner (DD-487).
