Episode #781 of Hometown Heroes, airing April 15-20, 2023, features two veterans about to experience their Honor Flights to Washington, D.C. The Honor Flight Network, founded by Earl Morse nearly two decades ago, is dedicated to taking veterans who served between 1941 and 1975, a period spanning World War II, the Korean War, the Cold War, and the Vietnam War.

Spring in the Capital Region yields the most beautiful weather, and flights are taking off this month from all over the country. Hometown Heroes listeners in the state of Washington who hear us KONA in Tri-Cities or KSBN in Spokane might know that the latest Inland Northwest Honor Flight just returned last week. Our KIVA listeners in Albuquerque can look forward to the next Honor Flight of Northern New Mexico sentimental journey June 20-22. For our WRFH listeners in Michigan, Talons Out Honor Flight will take another group of veterans to their memorials on May 13, while KION listeners in California can great the next Honor Flight Bay Area contingent when those veterans return May 13. May 1 is when our KYKN friends in Oregon can welcome home South Willamette Valley Honor Flight‘s next mission. Honor Flight Central Coast California will feature a charter flight for the first times, and our listeners on KVEC and KSMA can welcome those veterans home on April 26, while Honor Flight Kern County will cheer on 100 returning vets at Bakersfield’s Meadows Field airport at 5:30 p.m. on April 20, so KNZR listeners, go join the crowd. The two veterans we meet on this episode of Hometown Heroes are among the 68 veterans traveling to their memorials with Central Valley Honor Flight, so our KMJ, KYNO, and KFIV listeners can join the celebration at the Fresno Yosemite International Airport on Wednesday, April 19th, at 5:30 p.m.
