88-year-old Thelma Wiley of Sacramento, CA appears on a special Mother’s Day episode #785 of Hometown Heroes, airing May 13-15, 2023. Born and raised in rural Georgia, Thelma survived the tragic crash of Operation Babylift’s initial flight on April 4, 1975.

Before we hear how she ended up on that C-5 Galaxy, we’ll hear about her childhood in a large farming family in the South, complete with a valuable lesson learned in the peanut fields her father tended to daily.

    I had the honor and privilege of having a close relationship with this remarkable woman, who I call Momma Wiley. She shared her incredible story of surviving this plane crash. I am so happy that her story has been told and for others to hear. She is a great person and by the grace of God she has endured much with grace.
