96-year-old Melvin “Gabe” Gabelhaus of Modesto, CA appears on episode #700 of Hometown Heroes, airing September 25-27, 2021. A native of Lincoln, NE, Gabelhaus spent 20 years serving in the U.S. Navy from 1941 to 1961. He was just 16 years old when he altered his birth certificate to enlist before the United States entered World War II.
