97-year-old Bob Otto of Bakersfield, CA appears on episode #589 of Hometown Heroes, airing August 15-19, 2019. Born in Saskatchewan, Canada, Otto moved to Kern County with his family at the age of 2. He became a licensed pilot before the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, later enlisting in the Army Air Corps.

Bob was flying P-40 Warhawks and preparing to ship overseas when WWII ended. Find more photos on the Hometown Heroes facebook page.

    Thank you very much for interviewing my Dad on your show Home Town Heroes. He enjoyed the interview very much and even more to hear it on the radio for a second time. A friend of his has already called him to find out more of the details about his time in the service. It should be even more fun at the monthly Honor flight breakfast next week to see what my Dads friends will say.
